One of our wonderful oncology doctors at the RSCH, Sophie Otter, explains why she will be running the London Marathon this year on behalf of GRACE.
“On the 22nd April 2018, I will be running the London Marathon to raise money for GRACE. I entered the ballot for the London marathon not thinking I had any chance of getting a place so when I got the acceptance letter, I was excited and terrified all at the same time. This is a massive challenge for me, having only run my first half marathon in October, however, it’s incredible what you can do when you set your mind to it.
I am raising money for GRACE which is a fantastic local charity where the money raised or donated really does go directly into helping people suffering from gynaecological cancers. I am an oncology doctor at the Royal Surrey County Hospital and see how these cancers affect women and their families every day. I have also been very fortunate to receive funding from GRACE for my research which is into cervical cancer and have been touched by the willingness of patients to help with research when they are going through tough times themselves. I therefore wanted to give back something back to GRACE, by raising money for them during this challenge.”
