Huge congratulations to Sophie who ran the London Marathon last week on behalf of GRACE! Here she describes her experience:
“Marathon day came round very quickly but my training had gone well and I had comfortably got up to 20 miles a few weeks beforehand. Most of my training had been in wind, snow and rain so I was worried about it being the hottest marathon on record. The heat did make things tough from much earlier in the race than expected but it brought even more supporters out than usual. An incredibly kind lady gave me a calippo ice lolly at mile 17 which tasted amazing and was a welcome break from jelly babies and sports gels!
My gorgeous daughters (aged 2 and 4) were waiting for me at mile 19 to give me a kiss and a cuddle which really boosted me and I was able to run quicker from here to the finish! The last six miles were the most enjoyable, seeing Big Ben, Westminster and Buckingham Palace was brilliant as well as hearing the crowd cheering and bands playing music. It was one of the hardest days of my life but definitely one to remember and I am so proud of myself for finishing and for raising more than £1300 for GRACE.
